The GCCF is the governing body of the Cat Fancy in the United Kingdom and is the feline equivalent of the Kennel Club.The GCCF was established as an independent body in 1910 and was formed from the three or four cat clubs who were registering cats at that time.

The Official Journal of the GCCF is Our Cats which was formerly known as CATS magazine. Our Cats is published fortnightly and contains official GCCF notices, Judges' reports from GCCF licensed cat shows and many other cat related articles and features.

The Short-Haired Cat Society is the senior Breed Club for British and Foreign Shorthairs. It was first constituted in 1901 and was a Founder Member of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy, catering for all the then known Shorthair breeds. It has always been responsible for all the colours of British Shorthairs and has also incorporated the Manx Breed.
